(PDF format) NEW! NATURAL HISTORY PROGRAMSHow to Dig Up a Dinosaur How do we find dinosaur fossils? What do we do when we find the fossils? We don’t just “dig”; we “excavate”. What tools do we use, and how do we use them? Most important of all, how do scientists learn from the work? A museum paleontologist will show you his real “dig” experience with a dinosaur fossil and can answer your questions. (General Audience) Dinosaurs of New Jersey How do we find dinosaur fossils? (General Audience) Sea Monsters of New Jersey From giant swimming reptiles of the Age of Dinosaurs to the huge turtles and whales of the present, New Jersey’s shores have had plenty of sea monsters! Learn of the one hundred million years of huge swimming creatures that lived here, many of which are in the State Museum’s collections. A museum scientist will explain how we collect and study the fossils of the extinct monsters, and the ways that we protect those that still live along our coastal areas. (Intended for children grades 1 – 5) New Jersey Rocks and Minerals “New Jersey Rocks and Minerals” will discuss exactly what rocks and minerals are, how and where they form, how they are different, and how to identify them. Emphasis will be given to the importance of these materials in our every-day lives, as well as their significance to New Jersey in the past and present. Numerous hand samples will be used to enhance the discussion.
